Magellan new disk rollout

Thu 13 May 2004, 1500-1515

Magellan will experience around 15 minutes of down-time while a new disk is added. As per the Newt upgrade, data will be first pre-copied live and then incrementally synchronised during down-time to minimise data copy time. The upgrade is required to support our large disk quotas (large compared to the standard 20MB UNSW mail service quotas).

Services will be available or not available as per the following.

State Description of service

Up DHCP (ie., automatic IP address assignment)

Up Internet Object Cache (ie., www-proxy.phys.unsw.edu.au:3128)

Down Physics Mail delivery and reception (mail delayed ~15 minutes, not lost)

Down Physics Webmail interface (webmail.phys.unsw.edu.au)

Down LDAP authentication and Physics Directory service

Unaffected Third Year Laboratory data fitting and plotting program

Explanation of states:

Up=Service will 'failover'. It will be on the air.

Unaffected=Service has nothing to do with the host in question. It will be on the air.

Down=Service can not 'failover'. It will be off the air.
